That stinks! There is a big downside to affiliate marketing and that is that you have no control over stuff like this. With your own products you always have control which is a good case for making your own products. BTW - I live in New Hampshire!

Hello,
I was an affiliate in Colorado, the day I received the email from Amazon saying I was no longer an affiliate it hurt. I lost a lot of business. That day 150,000 jobs were lost in Colorado this was two years ago. I am still on the watch information list to stay abreast of the proceedings of this sales tax law. This past year the Democrats tried to repeal the law but ran into snags with the Republicans declining, imagine that! Amazon had the first case in New York where the sales tax first went into place. They left their affiliates in place and I believe they are still in a court battle. They continue to collect taxes. So on the next states tax rulings they pulled their affiliate status thus now having no presence of affiliates and not having to collect taxes. The federal interstate commerce law states that "A state can not garner taxes from another state" this is federal. The brick and mortar businesses are the ones crying about this and trying to force the issues. If they would learn to use the internet to their best interests they would not have a problem. The world of business is changing.
Colorado went a step further and demanded Amazon name the people from the state making purchases from Amazon so they could notify them of their tax obligations. Amazon declined. Amazon stated they were not in the area of a tax collector, and as far as collecting taxes from every state it would become a nightmare position. So...Pick your poison, even though I have some great plugins, and products I could work with sales on Amazon, I can not. So I am moving to New Hampshire. I can work online and live any where, no sales tax, and no income tax, and their motto, "Live Free and Die". This will continue until our politicians and I mean ALL Politicians stop trying to take everything we try to earn. Both my wife and I lost our jobs, in 2008 we turned to the internet to build a new life, our home is in foreclosure and we have a short time left here in Colorado. I hope this information has been useful to someone stay strong and continue fighting for what is right.
Thankx

I think the best course is the one by Geoff Shaw - it covers everything both fiction and on fiction and has a ton of resources, he keeps adding more and more stuff and, unlike a lot of the courses out there, he obviously is publishing a lot of books on there himself. Here's my affiliate link:

Wow, sometimes it amazes me how much we can get done if we only focus. I am very interested in publishing a few books on Kindle and was wondering what course you would recommend. I saw that you mentioned above you were following a specific course on Kindle publishing. I am considering both fiction and non-fiction, though.

Lee, I can always count on you to recommend solid products. A few months ago I decided that I wanted to build authority sites, and I've been looking for a good solid guide to doing just that. Knowing Dennis and you, I feel pretty confident that this product will be good for me, Thanks for the recommend. I'll pick it up this week.

Thanks! I'm just going to judge success by how much traffic I get as well as how many comments etc… I don't think there is a real measurement for authority but if traffic is increasing and people are interacting thats good enough for me! Geoff Shaw's course on the kindle is the best I have seen (other then the Jonny Andrews one that is closed now).

Lee,
I agree with Penny, I've learned so much from reading your blog, I can't wait to see your results.. How will you know if you are successful? After everything I've read on authority sites, I still don't know how to tell if a site is an authority. Also, can you recommend a good guide/report for someone wanting to pubilsh on kindle?

@Stephen - When I outsource articles, I give the writer the article title, main keyword, and up to 4 secondary keywords for each article. I also let the writer know how often the keywords should appear in each article (2%-4% density for main keyword, and each secondary keyword should appear at least once), the length the article should be (300 words, 500 words), and what it is intended for (blog post, article directory). Hope this helps.

I think making smaller related niche sites is a good plan. I actually thought about doing that myself too because in my healthy foods niche there are a ton of sub niches and I still have that "hankering" to create more sites - lol. So maybe that would satisfy that and also add to my main business.

Writing the books is pretty easy, but I'm a writer at heart anyway. You can't use PLR or anything even close - even if you rewrite it. They are removing books left and right that even seem like PLR. I got a couple of mine blocked and I know a few people that have had almost their removed - even ones that were totally rewritten and selling well :(
