When it comes to building Web2.0 properties to link back to your “money” site, one of the properties you can use is Hubpages, but if you don’t use them properly then you could get your Hub shut down and you need to do some extra work to get your links to be “dofollow” and pass on that link juice.
Hubpages is kind of strict in their policies. If you want to link out to your website, you need to have unique content that will be posted only on Hubpages.
In order to get a link that is dofollow, you need to post it inside your text module. Just use the regular html href tag to do this.
How To Get Your Links To Be “Do Follow”
When you login to hubpages, you will notice a number in the bottom right corner of your picture. That’s called your “profile score” . When the score is 75 or above, the links in your hubs will be dofollow. If it drops below 75, they will become nofollow. If you bring it back up to 75, then they will automatically become dofollow!
Also, I have heard that the individual hub itself needs to have a score of 40 or above else the links will become nofollow (have yet to actually verify this though)
Another thing to be aware of is that if you add 2 links to the same page, then Hubpages automatically makes them nofollow.
Tips For Getting Your Profile (or Hubgber) Score above 75
Just like any Web 2.0 site, Hubpages wants you to be an active part of the community and they reward you for such behavior. So, reading other hubs, rating other hubs and commenting on other hubs can help with your score.
Also, the total number of published hubs you have influences the score.
Your traffic across all hubs can also impact this and if you have any fans that rates in your favor.
Tips For Increasing Your Individual Hub Score:
The scroe of each individual hub is influenced by the following:
1. Length of hub and how much original content it has
2. Traffic that your hub gets
3. Your “Hubber” score
4. The number of thumbs up votes your hub gets
So, if you want to use Hubpages, then you should make sure you post unique, quality content and work at getting those scores up!

Is the comment box on hubpages dofollow or nofollow?
I just checked them and they are nofollow if you put a url in the comment but it looks like the link to your hubpages id is dofollow.
More & more evidence suggests that nofollow links still count for something. Dofollow & nofollow links are both still links, so on that note, I’d think relevance is still more important when it comes to where your links are coming from.
That’s interesting – I would love to see the evidence that points to this as I am always up for looking at real life case studies that prove out these types of things.
There was actually a real life case study done that showed that nofollow links had no effect on rankings. You can see that here:

On the topic of relevance my tests show that it does not matter. But my testing ability is limited as I am just a small time webmaster. However the tests of people with a lot more resources such as Terry Kyle and the People over at IMA (Steve Clayton and co) have discovered that relevance is not important at all. Still, I would think that if you can get links on relevant sites that would be a best practice.
No Follow links helps only in Bing and Yahoo serp, but in Google, it does not count at all. Only Do Follow links count in Google.

Hmm… I’m not sure I have seen that, can you give me an example?
Thanks. I guess now I shouldn’t go for any article directory. Hubpages is enough.
Thanks
I used this fiverr gig to help get my score up so my links are now dofollow. Thought I’d share.

Thanks so much for writing this. I had joined hubpages recently and didn’t understand why some links were dofollow and some nofollow. Since I read your article I’ve started to contribute more in a bid to raise my profile score. It looks like it’s going to take quite some time, but I have the time and enthusiasm to create a few new hubs so hopefully that will help.

Getting your hubscore to 75 actually depends on a lot of things – you can find out more about what you need to do here http://darkside.hubpages.com/hub/Hubscore
Well done – halfway through reading this I logged into Hubpages and deleted some of the links within my posts. Thanks for the tips, they are greatly appreciated.
