Thanks so much for writing this. I had joined hubpages recently and didn’t understand why some links were dofollow and some nofollow. Since I read your article I’ve started to contribute more in a bid to raise my profile score. It looks like it’s going to take quite some time, but I have the time and enthusiasm to create a few new hubs so hopefully that will help.

No Follow links helps only in Bing and Yahoo serp, but in Google, it does not count at all. Only Do Follow links count in Google.

That’s interesting – I would love to see the evidence that points to this as I am always up for looking at real life case studies that prove out these types of things.

There was actually a real life case study done that showed that nofollow links had no effect on rankings. You can see that here:

On the topic of relevance my tests show that it does not matter. But my testing ability is limited as I am just a small time webmaster. However the tests of people with a lot more resources such as Terry Kyle and the People over at IMA (Steve Clayton and co) have discovered that relevance is not important at all. Still, I would think that if you can get links on relevant sites that would be a best practice.
