RSS Marketing – Using Yahoo Pipes

Wanna know how to make an unlimited number of rss feeds on any topic or subtopic of your niche while simultaneously promoting all of your internet properties? It’s all here in this video!

In this video I’m going to show you how to get more mileage out of your rss feeds by using a free tool called yahoo pipes.

So you want to go to pipes.yahoo.com and login using your yahoo id.

You’ll get this screen and you’ll see in the middle is your work area, below that is the area where you will be able to see the output of the pip you have created and over on the left are all the options that you can use with this tool.

Now as you can see, this is a really powerful tool with a ton of things you can do. I haven’t even used all the things, but there;s videos on the Yahoo pipes site if you want to explore more.

For now, I’m just going to work with adding a couple of rss feeds to show you how you can use this to increase the reach of the rss feeds on your sites.

So, I’m going to pick the fetch feed option under sources. You’ll see this box pop up in the work area and you can enter as many feeds as you want in here. It’s a great way to mix and match your existing feeds to make new feeds that you can then submit to the feed directories. So ,I’m going to enter my website feed and my ezine articles author feed.

Then I’m going to connect the combined feeds to the output – you do this by simply clicking on the feed and dragging it to the output. Now you’ll see all the items from both rss feeds in the output.

OK, so that’s cool but here is where the real power comes in. You can apply filters to the output. SO, you can take your feeds and apply a filter so that only entries with certain keywords will appear. Or you can eliminate entries with certain keywords. So, you can use the filter to whittle down your rss feed into different feeds that represent sub niches within your nice. This gives you the ability to make an unlimited number of unique feeds from your already existing feeds.

Lets say I want to make a feed that has only articles with “website” in the title. I simply slect permit and then title, and type in the phrase I want to permit. Now I need to put the filter in between my feed and the output, so I go down to where the feed is attached to the output and put my cursor over the end of the pipe, then click on the scissors and it removes the pipe, Then I just connect the feed to the filter and the filter to the pipe. Refresh the output and now you see it only has the articles that have the word website in them. As you can see the possibilities are endless!

Next, you want to save your work. Click the save button and enter your pipe name. Then click the properties button and you can enter a description and some tags, then click run pipe. You’ll get a page with the output now you can click publish and get your feed publicly listed in yahoo and you can click the button and get the rss feed which you can submit to the RSS directories.

Ok, now I’ve showed you a little bit about what you can do with this powerful tool the rest is up to you!
