Step 1 – Keyword Research

Possibly the most important part of your online efforts is going to be the keyword research. This is the thing that can make or break your ability to get traffic so you must get this right!

In the videos below, I’ll show you two methods of keyword research – one that you can do for free and one you can do using a tool called Market Samurai.

I know a lot of people want to go for the “free” method, but as you know, nothing in life is really free.  You will see by the videos that the “free” method will actually cost you a LOT in time as well as accuracy.  Since keyword research is the cornerstone of your IM efforts, I strongly urge you to get a good tool that will help make sure you get the best keywords in the most efficient manner.  The second video below shows how to do it with my favorite tool – Market Samurai! (use my affiliate link and try it out for free!)

And Here’s How You Can Do The Same Research Using Market Samurai (Yes, this is my affiliate link and you can try it out for free by using this link):

Hi Lee,

I really like your work! I’ve reviewed your tutorials and am impressed.

I have some questions.
I am currently using UAW for article directory submissions, but have noticed the low quality directories it submits to. I also submit some to Ezine Article, Hubpages and Article Base, but am kind of overwhelmed with all of this. I noticed that you recommend “Link Juicer”. I really can’t afford UAW and Link Juicer (I need to start making money with IM before I can justify the expense). What would you suggest?
1- Stay with UAW (or another service) and increase submissions to major article directories
2- Focus on the major article directories only and add Link Juicer.
3- Just manually submit to the major article directories and major W2 sites like Squidoo.

I’m not impressed with the various article spinners on the market, but you mentioned that you do some article spinning. Are you using Best Spinner, or what would you recommend?

I now have around 45, or so, backlinks (on one of my 7 sites) on Yahoo and Bing, respectively, but zero on Google, after 1 month w/ UAW. Is that pretty common? Why is it so difficult to get Google backlinks?

I also noticed your “Blog Profit Mastery” site which I recognize as a souped up version of one of the Gary Ambrose’s Masterspring series. I really like the complete sites you have created. Why would you be interested in the Masterspring product, although I’m not disparaging them? It just seems to me that you are way beyond needing a product like this.

Kindest Regards,

Stu Bowes

Hi Stu,

Wow, that’s a lotta questions… Let’s see if I can answer them!

OK, first off, I think Link Juicer is good for getting backlinks to your articles etc…. These days you just can’t submit articles, you have to get backlinks to them too. The backlinks from UAW are very low level – most of the people that have their blogs in the system have PR0 blogs, no authority so IMHO if you want the articles you distribute on their to have any juice you need to get backlinks to them. Either via something like Link Juicer … or you could start some related blogs on blogger, weebly etc… and use those. Of course, you need to get some backlinks to your blogger and weebly sites to give them some juice.

So, for someone with no budget, I would think a good way to go is to setup some web2.0 blog properties that you can add posts to and get some backlinks (you could use social bookmarking and article directories) to those. Then you can use those properties to backlink to any subsequent articles that you submit to the directories. I think you want to focus on blog type sites not hubpages or squidoo because then you can get lots of backlinks out of it whereas a squidoo lens or hubpage really only allows a couple of them. Of course, you can use your hubpages and squidoo lenses to backlink to your blogger and weebly blogs too. The idea is to create a network of properties that you can use to gain links from. You must backlink these though.

Also, you can use blog commenting to give some juice to both your articles and your web2.0 properties. This is actually probably the best way to give it more juice because you can find blog posts with high PR that you can use to comment on and boost your other properties. Better than buying link Juicer, maybe invest in fast blog finder and ferret out the high PR posts like I show here: http://www.websitepromotionblueprint.com/blog-commenting

By taking the time to create these sites, you will be building a network of high PR places that you can get links from any time you want. Takes some time to build up but worth it in the end.

Spinning is more about the person spinning than the tool. I do use The Best Spinner but could probably get the same results from any tool. You need to spin phrases and sentences and judiciously choose synonyms. It can take me 3 or 4 hours to spin an article but I can guarantee that you would never know the article was spun. It takes practice to get good at that.

Google doesn’t show all the links it knows about, if you put your site into google webmaster tools than you might see more links in there.

For Blog Profit Mastery, I am just using Memberspring as the software to drip feed the membership all the content in there is mine (actually I might have kept a couple of the articles they supplied as they were good) tons of articles I wrote and videos that show you how to do stuff. I’m not sure why you think I would be beyond that – I need software to manage the membership and I don’t write that kind of code myself. I’m actually thinking of breaking it up into seperate products because people learn at different paces so some people wanted the info to drip in faster and others don’t… probably better to just let people buy the products at their own pace.

Thanks for your comments!

Hi Lee,

Thanks for responding to my post. I have read over your comments several times. I believe I read somewhere that you got started in internet marketing about 5 years ago. If that’s the case, then I’d consider myself a success to be where you are today after I’ve been doing this for 5 years. Are you looking for students?

Thanks,

Stu

Lee 01.16.11 at 3:16 pm

Why thanks Stu! Yeah, I have been at it for like 7 years now … but part time the first few years and then I got laid off from my job and just started doing this full time. I’m not looking for any students – much to impatient to be good at training people!

Thank you for your video tutorials. I thinks as a newbies, so many thing i should learn by now. Huhuhu. But my problem, I’m very easy to distract to other things rather to concentrate somethings. I know this is bad attitude if we want to succeed in this IM arena. Can you give me some advise to me ?
